Leaving Cert Applied

Leaving Cert Applied students take a course of Leisure & Recreation over their two years in the leaving certificate programme. The Leisure and Recreation Course is designed to enable Leaving Certificate Applied students to acquire and develop skills which will encourage them to participate in active leisure pursuits. The modules will broaden students’ perspectives of leisure and recreation activities and offer them opportunities to participate in a range of physical activities.
The modules also encourage co-operation between students and allows for the development of personal and social skills. The Leisure and Recreation course promotes long-term learning and motivates the students to choose a life-style that is active, healthy and meaningful.

Any two modules can be selected for the Leisure and Recreation syllabus. The modules can be taken in any sequence.

Module 1: Physical Activity for Performance.
Module 2: Physical Activity for Health and Fitness.
Module 3: Physical Activity for Recreation.

Students may also use their Leisure & Recreation course as the basis of their General Education Task.

General Education Task

The Student Task is a practical activity and/or process of reflection through which the student integrates and applies learning experiences gained from undertaking the Leaving Certificate Applied programme to some or all of the following
• The development of a product
• The investigation of an issue
• The performance of an action
• The provision of a service
• The staging of an event
• Personal reflection

This year's LCA class are undertaking a task to help refurbish the Youth Club & its new premises in the Recreation Centre in Dunleer.
