Leaving Certificate Applied Programme
Scoil Uí Mhuirí Co-ordinator : Mr. Alan Hurley
The Leaving Certificate Applied is a distinct, self-contained two-year programme aimed at preparing students for adult and working life. The programme puts an emphasis on forms of achievement and excellence, which the established Leaving Certificate has not recognised in the past.
The Leaving Certificate Applied is intended to meet the needs of those students who are not adequately catered for by other Leaving Certificate programmes or who choose not to opt for such programmes. The advantage of Leaving Certificate Applied is that it focuses on the talents of each individual student and helps students apply what they learn in the real world. The two-year programme consists of four half-year blocks called Sessions and achievements are credited in each of these Sessions.

"The reason I wanted to do LCA was because I wanted to communicate with other students and do all the tasks. "
"My favourite class is Graphics & Construction. The class I don't like is maths because I hate working with numbers. I also like ICT because I like doing all the computer work and projects."
"LCA is a good course because you get to do work experience in different things you'd like to do when you're finished school."
"LCA is great fun. Yesterday was cool and the day before and the day before....Yesterday we went to Navan to go go Karting and Paintballing. The Go Karting was class even though I came last."
"I am glad I am doing LCA because I enjoy the practical stuff e.g Woodwork. The name of the classes are weird e.g I.C.T."
