Results and Achievements
We are very proud of the academic achievements of our students both at Leaving Certificate and Third Level. Success rates for our Leaving Certificate students have consistently been of a very high standard. A great many of our past students have continued their studies at Universities, Institutes of Technology, Nursing and Teaching Colleges. Many are now studying and pursuing careers in such diverse areas as Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marketing, Technology, Teaching, Applied Science, Nursing, Agriculture and Computer Science.
National awards have been achieved by our students in the areas of Engineering, Technology, Languages, English and Home Economics. We will continue to offer the highest standard of education to all our students and our staff members make themselves available to parents and past students for help and advice at any time.
Scoil Uí Mhuirí Students Claimed Two Top Awards in 2009
Patrick Lennon, a 6th year student, & Stephen McMullen, a 2nd year student, were both recognised for their individual achievements at the Regional Bank of Ireland Awards ceremony in 2009.
Patrick dedicates much of his free time to helping people with disabilities. He is involved in the Louth Branch of Cerebral Palsy & the Irish Wheelchair Association. More recently he & his Mum have been involved in organising summer camps for people with disabilities. When they started in 1998 there were 60 children, today they cater for over 200. Patrick is also actively involved in his local Civil Defence. Bank of Ireland representatives presenting the Awards commented that "The winner of the Community Spirit Senior Cycle is an extraordinary individual. He is very selfless and shows great maturity beyond his years."
Stephen has slowly been earning himself a reputation as a keen entrepreneur, already winning awards at the Louth Student Enterprise Awards earlier this year. Stephen was nominated by the school on the basis of his honey making business. The judges liked that such a young person had chosen such a traditional business. They admired the passion of the entrant and one judge even commented that this was the 'bees knees' of an application!
Stephen & Patrick will now go forward for consideration at the National Bank of Ireland Awards & we wish them both every success.
